An Overview of Maritime Research at DTU-Construct
Speaker: Harry B. Bingham
Professor of Marine Hydrodynamics
Section for Fluid Mechanics, Coastal and Maritime Engineering
Dept. of Civil & Mechanical Engineering
Technical University of Denmark
Abstract: The Maritime Group of DTU-Construct’s Section for Fluid Mechanics, Coastal and Maritime Engineering (FVM) educates Naval Architects and Offshore Engineers and carries out research on all aspects of marine structures.
In this talk, I will give an overview of our activities with some examples of the experimental, theoretical and numerical methods we apply to help optimize and ensure the safety and reliability of ships, offshore platforms, and aquaculture installations. As concrete examples, I will describe how we model the hydro-elastic response of large ships to ocean waves and summarize an ongoing research effort to predict to energy production by a wave energy device based on oscillating water columns.
