Our research is recognized nationally and internationally. Our research activities stand on two equally important pillars:

Strategic / applied research

Research which on a relatively short time horizon can become applicable within industry and other parts of the surrounding society.

Fundamental research

Research which is driven by a quest to a deeper understanding that is not necessarily motivated by a specific application in mind. Such research may form the basis for applied research at a longer time horizon - perhaps at the time of our children or grand children.

We see these two approaches as complementary. Many - if not most - important contributions in science stem from a desire to solve practicals problems.
